Arlington County Purchases Property at 3538 Wilson Boulevard to Link Maury and Milliken Parks

Map showing addition to Maury and Milliken parks

The County informed AHCA today that it has purchased the property at 3538 Wilson Boulevard which is the property next to the Arts Center.  As you can see on the map, it will connect up Maury Park (which abuts the Arts Center) Milliken Park.

AHCA has invited Lisa Grandle to come to the September&nbspmeeting to talk about this and also provide an update on Ashton Height's other park, Mosaic Park.  Click read more for the text of the County's letter to AHCA and a larger version of the map:

Ashton Heights Civic Association
Mr. Robert Tanner, President

Dear Mr. Tanner:

I am writing to let you know that the County has recently acquired the
property at 3538 Wilson Boulevard.  The property adjoins Maury Park
and Herselle Milliken Park and is part of the long term strategy to
link the properties along N. Lincoln Street with Maury Park.  The
acquisition is consistent with the Public Spaces Master Plan, the
Virginia Square Sector Plan and your neighborhood plan.

We plan to move forward by the fall of this year to remove the
structures and reestablish the site as open space.  The house and
outbuildings will be deconstructed rather than using traditional means
and equipment.  What this will entail is that the structures will be
taken apart by a contractor, i.e. deconstructed, in order to reclaim,
re-use and/or recycle as much of the materials as possible.  There are
no plans at this point in time for improvements other than reseeding
the area once the structures are removed and taking down the fence on
the east edge of the property where it adjoins Herselle Milliken Park
and removing a small section of the fence on the western side of the
property to connect to Maury Park.

Sincerely,

Lisa D. Grandle
Park Development Division Chief
